The World Revolves Around Me People

Yesterday David and I took Eliza and Sadie to the Children's Museum to see Elmo. A couple of weeks ago we took them there to see Barney. Barney was really fun. He put on a little show and the girls got to dance and sing along. We thought Elmo would be just as great....

Well, going to see Elmo was quite different. It was a Meet and Greet Elmo, not a show. There was a LONG line to see him. My brother-in-law, Jeff, met us there with his two boys. I waited in line with his baby while David and Jeff explored the museum with the older kiddos. I waited in line for almost two hours (That's worse than Disneyland...note to self, the friendly, furry, red monster wasn't quite worth it). The rest of the crew joined me in line for about the last half hour.

David struggled to contain Eliza; she was determined to run up and see Elmo. Finally we had our 35 seconds greeting Elmo. I kind-of struggled with trying to keep an eye on all the kids and work the camera. If you watch my short montage, I apologize the footage is so poor. I had issues. The kids enjoyed hugging Elmo. Sadie was so cute as we walked away. She just kept waving and repeating, "Bye-bye, Elmo."

Have you ever been around someone who thinks the world revolves around them?

There were a few sets of parents who just walked up to the front of the line. They directed their children to just go up and see Elmo. The sweet blond gal in the video is captured telling one of these little ones to wait his turn. After she sent him away, his parents just quietly said, "Go up there," and they motioned with their hands for him to go back. Parents just kept prompting their kids to just sneak in. After sweetly shoeing away a bunch of kids, the sweet lady announced that everyone not in line needed to back up to the cake (a picture on the wall). I didn't see anyone move back.

I felt bad for the confused little kids. I felt bad for the sweet lady who was put in the awkward position of having to tell these little kids that they can't see Elmo right now. These silly parents have a case of The Whole World Revolves Around Me. For some reason these silly folks mistakenly believe that their lives and their time are more important than everyone else's in the community. The behavior of these parents didn't really effect my life any. Its just that I don't care for that type of attitude. Now they are teaching their young children that they are more important than everyone else too. This selfish attitude is not only being taught by example now; the kids are actually be instructed and encouraged to be selfish and thoughtless.
